Swifty’s (Schrempf) |
|
In the regular season finale, Swifty's nipped Bob Bellizzi's 9-8 in an exciting game featuring many big hits including the long ball. Bellizzi's jumped out to a 6-0 lead behind the big bats of Jerry Jennings (2 run homer) and Chris Taranto. Swifty's came back to take a 9-6 lead and then hung on at the end with a Trey Sgroi 2 run homer cutting the lead to 9-8. Alex Shudt slammed the door with a big strikeout for the last out.
Offensively, Swifty's had the big power bats going of Matt Wise (solo HR for a league leading 4th, single, 2 runs scored) and Ian Dickinson (a 2 run homer, 2 doubles and 2 runs scored). Derek Martelle had a big 2 RBI double and caught a masterful game behind the plate. Zack Zonca tripled, singled and scored a run, and Alex Shudt singled twice, scored twice and drove in 2 runs.
On to the post-season, best of luck to Coaches Jennings, Taranto and Sgroi and thanks for a fun game. |

Swifty’s (Schrempf) |
|
In the early Saturday morning affair, Swifty's dropped a tough one to a talented Price Greenleaf squad, 6-5. PG was in charge early as they plated 4 runs in the first two innings, and PG ace pitcher, Jeff Hammond, kept Swifty's off the board through the first 3 innings. Swifty's scratched out a run in the fourth and then rallied to take a 5-4 lead in the 5th inning. PG though came right back and re-took the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th inning with some well placed hits. The drama did not end until PG got the final out of the game with the tying run on 3rd base.
Swifty's got big offensive contributions from Matt Wise (2 RBI triple, single and run scored), Joey Schrempf (RBI double and steal of home), Zack Zonca (single, walk, run scored), Derek Martelle (run scored, walk) and Austin Fox (single, run scored).
Drew Ksanznak also pitched well with 6 Ks in 3 innings, and Alex Shudt flashed some fine leather at 3rd base snaring a hard hit liner.

Price Greenleaf (Vagianelis) |
|
A very close and well played game between two very good teams competing for a spot in the post-season. A few great plays and hits made the difference in this game and the outcome was not certain until the final pitch and out. Jeff Hammond had eight strikeouts and Jeremy Fournier had three strikeouts for Price Greenleaf. Joey Schrempf and Drew Ksanznak pitched very well for Swfity's. Chris Harvey had a passed ball third strike which he turned into a run scored and a double; Colby Nash had three singles; Dave Harvey had a single and an amazing catch at shortstop in the top of the sixth at a critical moment in the game; Ben Thomas a single and amazing catch in right field and Ben Thomas also stopped a hard hit ball at short stop which robbed Swifty's of an extra run scored; Merrick Hosford had a walk; and Thomas Harvey a walk. It was a total team effort and a great come from behind win. Thanks to Coaches Schrempf, Harder and Wise for a fun an well-played game. |
